Dec 16, 2015 · i use borax for pest control (put it in a hole on the outside of my house where the hornets had a nest inside). it's essentially the same as boric acid. they erode the waxy coating on an insect until they die. i got a box of it at the big carrot on the danforth, just east of broadview. dec 14th, 2015 7:39 pm #6;
If you add sodium hydroxide to boric acid it becomes water and borax and if you eat borax in the stomach the acid will convert it to boric acid. they are different but not totally different. actually if you put boric acid in water about 1% if it will convert to the same anion borax or sodium borate will produce in water as well. For this experiment you will need borax (disodium tetra borate) and conc. hydrochloric acid. take 25 ml of hydrochloric acid and dilute it with 75 ml of water. next take 67 gms of borax and dissolve it in boiling water. now add equal amount of hydrochloric acid. crystals of boric acid will start forming. they are completely insoluble in cold water.
